Kat Von D - True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Ludwig (Review & Swatches)

The Kat Von D Ludwig True Romance Eyeshadow Palette is a shimmer and matte combo eyeshadow palette that is apart of the True Romance Palette Collection. This palette and collection is solely exclusive at Sephora.  This product is priced at $43/$36 (CDN/USD) for 0.05 oz per eye shadow (8 eyeshadows included).

This palette is packaged in a sleek sturdy plastic (black) casing, with a snap to close lid.  The compact has a beautiful stenciled imagery of roses (reminds me of a tattoo). As mentioned before it includes eight shadows (plus two applicators).

This palette includes a range of nudes to hues of green (2)- Perfect for a smoky eye. The eyeshadow formula has an infusion of rose extract which is hydrating to the eyelids. This is easily a day to night palette.

Swatches:  Single Swatch and no blending

 Flash
No Flash

Texture: Super soft and silky to the touch.
Pigmentation: 5/5
Scent:  Has a soft powdery rose scent (barely recognizable).
Application: Due to the texture this product is very easily blendable.
Fall out:  There is fall out (as with all eyeshadows) but this product stays on the lid (even better if you use a shadow primer).

Tips:  The applicator this product comes with, isn't the best for applying the actual eyeshadow to the lid, crease or brow bone.  Better used as a liner brush!

The Eyeshadows - (listed left to right):

Lucifer (matte charcoal black)
Orbi (shimmer golden green)
Dimebag (metallic lime green)
Clay (shimmer beige with gold)
Tequila (metallic cornsilk shimmer)
Downtown (metallic light copper shimmer)
 Baroque (shimmer golden bronze)
Leather (matte deep chocolate brown)

Flash
No Flash

Final Thoughts: If you love mattes, you may not like this palette as it only contains two mattes colours (Lucifer and Leather).  However, as someone who loves
working with frost, shimmer, metallic, glitter and matte; I find this palette to be so versatile (especially if looking for a neutral eye).  Definitely, check out
Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palettes, I'm sure there is one to suit your needs; plus with such a formula and colour pay off, your sure not to be disappointed.

Do you own any of the True Romance Palettes?

Iman Time Control- Under Cover Agent Oil Control Primer

This is a good everyday primer, especially if you have combination to oily skin.  The consistency of this product is that of a thick serum.  It is easy to spread and therefore blend. The staying power of this primer is fantastic even on oily skin (I blotted once throughout the day in cooler temperatures). For $15/$24 (USD/CDN) you will get 40 ml of product presented  in a sleek  squeeze tube that has a pump attached.

Tips: Ensure that primer is fully dried before proceeding with liquid foundation/pressed powder. This will ensure a smooth and flawless application.

Pros: The primer feels lightweight and smooth upon application.  Perfect for an everyday primer (keeps shine away while it slightly fill pores for a somewhat flawless look).

Cons: Product has a slight scent.  Does not last all day (12 hrs on the go).  I found I personally had to blot my T-zone once (within Canada we are experiencing cooler temperatures).  The price is a bit high for a primer that is not considered highend.

Final thoughts: This product creates a matte base for your makeup application. After doing some research it came to my attention that the product also contains peppermint and chamomile extracts which is said to soothe skin (no noticeable peppermint scent found in product). The formula of the product is color-free, therefore it won't alter your foundation shade. Overall, I would suggest this product (especially for everyday use-not special events).

Jamberry Nails (Initial Review)

I am such a fan of nail art. Whether it be done in a salon, at home or using nail stickers.  Jamberry is an 'all over' nail wrap that can easily be applied from the comfort of your home.  With 6 simple steps to apply, this vinyl nail wrap is not made of nail polish.

The wear longevity of this product is said to be 2 weeks for nails and approximately 4 weeks for the toes.  With the likelihood of no chipping.  This is great for the woman on-the-go, who always wants that manicured look.

The application (my experience)

As I set up the required tools for application which included  a nail file, cotton pad + alcohol (or alcohol wipes) and a hair dryer; I thought to myself this would be tedious.  I soon found, out I was wrong. It was a quick easy process with no trimming of the product required (fit my nail bed perfectly).  When it came to trimming the ends off, to fit the length of your nails I found this part a little tricky.  Due to the material of the wraps, it was a bit difficult to get the wrap to lay smoothly on the tip of the 'free edge' on the nail (eventually I got it to work-by warming the wrap while it was on my nail and adding more pressure). However everywhere else the wrap applied and laid smoothly with no appearance of lifting.

Tips for application:

-  Ensure there are no oils or residue on your nails for the best application.

-  Use your blow-dryer on the highest heat to warm up the wraps properly (heat needed to activate the adhesive).

-  When holding the wraps during this step,  I held it with tweezers because I found the air too hot to hold it with my bare hands.

Initial thoughts:

Love the product.  You can get intricate designs done quickly (they offer lots of patterns from simple to intricate in many colours).  I have worn this wrap for over 3 days and so far I really do like it (and I am amazed it is still on since I use my hands a lot).

They always have amazing deals on these nail wraps (so contact your closest Jamberry Nail representative).  Plus Christmas is right around the corner and this is a great stocking stuffer!

After application:

Have you used Jamberry Nails?

A two week final review will be done.

*Disclosure: This is a sponsored review from a Jamberry Nail Consultant.  The product was not bought, but given for my honest review. Therefore all opinions are my own.

Maybelline Eye Studio® Color Tattoo

Maybelline brands this product as a long wearing shadow that is textured as a cream gel that glides over lids without creasing.  With 13 shades to choose from you can be as subdued with 'tough as taupe' or as bold with 'tenacious teal.'  The product is very similar to MAC paint pots (with color tattoo winning due to the texture and smoothness- and of course price).  For 0.14 oz of product you can expect to pay between $4.97 to $10.97 CDN/USD depending on the store.  The lowest prices were found at Walmart.

Tips:  Though this is a long wearing shadow, I still use a shadow base (to ensure all day longevity).  I also apply using fingers, rather than a brush to get a smoother application.

Pros:  Super smooth (blend-able) and long lasting.  Colour is build-able, therefore it can go from sheer to opaque depending  on how you layer the product.  For the colour payoff and overall quality of the product it is priced well.

Cons:  I have oily lids, therefore this product does crease a bit (use a shadow base and this product is perfection is a pot).  The finish of the product is limited (mostly shimmer), matte browns/black is needed.

Final Thoughts:  Overall, a good product. For women on the go who want a quick shadow without the hassle of blending for too long, will love the ease of this product.  Also a great buy for daring artists who want there colours to really pop!

Winter 2013 Wearable Beauty Trends

With the first official snowfall of Toronto (happening this past weekend) which beckons the idea that winter is soon approaching, I felt inspired to blog winter trends of 2013.  As usual winter trends and fall trends go hand in hand with ideas overlapping year after year.  This year is no different.  Fall Trends have been seen  everywhere this season and we will continue to see them throughout this new approaching season along with a few add-ons such as:

Futuristic eyes with a strong winged liner (Use your favourite liquid or gel eyeliner to create this bold cat eyed look)

Bold eyebrows ( Don't over wax/pluck and if you have naturally thin brows use your fave brow pencil to fill in those 'frames')

Nude eye makeup looks (use nude shadows of soft and bold chocolate browns, pinks and plums)

Red matte lips (From cherry picked to a deep vampy red, red lips are always a must for this holiday season)

Tips:  Glitter is always a holiday favourite, although not always wearable you can always add a bit to your tear duct to brighten up your look, or my fav tip is to add it the center of your lips (when wearing your favourite lip colour), for a beautiful festive look.

Here's a makeup look based on winter trends

Remember beautiful these are just trends, take from them as you may but remember set your own trends and be yourself.  Do you works for you and most importantly, stay beautiful!

Sephora Collection: Long-Lasting Vinyl Lip Lacquer

I was pleasantly surprised with this product.  Though I am a fan of Sephora, the store; as a product brand I am not so keen on it.   However, this has peaked my interest into what else this line (Sephora collection) has to offer.  This product is highly pigmented and opaque but also has a high shine vinyl finish.  I stumbled across this product on sale for $7 CDN, but research shows if you live in the US you can find it for $5.  This is worth it.  Found in store not online.  I was surprised on how long its stayed on the lips without it being drying.  The product does transfer a bit and the application is done through a wand.

Tips: This product is pigmented and has a thicker consistency therefore I suggest doing the "finger in the mouth" technique to prevent product from transferring onto your teeth.

Pros: Glides on smoothly (no choppy patches), highly pigmented and has glossy vinyl finish.  This product lasts long on the lips and does not require a lip liner (since it is not prone to running-unless you layer on too much).  This product is not sticky.

Cons:  Only saw product in two colours (though it was on sale so other colours may have been sold out).  Also product is on sale, therefore product may be discontinued therefore hurry hurry hurry and get yours!  Hopefully they are just repacking the product.

Final Thoughts:  Great product especially if you don't mind the high gloss vinyl look plus you cannot beat the price.

Colours shown: Burgundy and Red (actual branding name)

Burgundy worn on the lips (due to the vinyl finish true colour was difficult to show through the lens of a camera- but when worn colours are true to the name)

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure

This is by far my FAVOURITE nail polish line from Sally Hansen.  If you have not tried this polish line you definitely need to.  With one stroke that offers great coverage with a wide brush, this nail polish line makes painting your nails hassle free.  The line promises a manicure in a bottle, a 7 in 1 nail polish.  It boasts that it is a  base coat, strengthener, growth treatment, has salon-inspired colours, top coat, chip-resistance and offers a gel like finish.  All of which I can say it does do.  The price varies from $7.99 to $10.99 (CDN/USD) depending where you get it.

Tips:  Don't paint too close to the cuticle and you will achieve a fantastic 'I went to the salon look'.

Pros:  Nails feels stronger after using.  The finish looks and 'feels' as if you got your nails painted in the salon.  I have a wider nail bed, so this brush overs it well and with no streaks!

Cons: This is a 7 in 1 polish and it is priced to reflect the product (higher cost considering it is a drugstore brand).  But you can always find a sale! The width of the brush is wide, therefore if your nail bed is narrow you will have some trouble using this product.  This product will chip like all other nail polishes (I got 4 days wear before my first chip appeared).

Final thoughts:  This nail polish is great.  Easy to use and with such classic to trendy nail colours you are sure to find something that suits you.  A must try.  Trust me you will LOVE it! I know I do.

Colour:  Kook-A- Mango
No base or top coat was applied

Philosophy Purity Made Simple

Did you ever wear a full face of makeup and had to wash your face numerous times to get all the product off?  Well I have and after a long day sometimes I don't feel like spending 15 mins at the sink getting the layers of perfection off of my skin.  This is where this product comes in.  With a mix of a cleanser and toner, this product strips makeup off of your face without over drying your skin.  Perfect after a night of celebrations where your face is full of makeup but not for everyday use since the cost is high (unless your not a beauty on a budget).  This product is great for removing heavy duty eye makeup without going through the hassle of using a makeup remover before cleansing. The product is easiest found in Sephora in Canada and the USA.

How to use: Damp face with lukewarm water and apply a dime sized amount of product in your palms and massage into face and neck (upward motion to avoid skin sagging).  A little goes a long with with the product.

Pros: Deep cleans your face leaving it beautifully smooth and less oily.  It has a slight pleasant smell and you will notice how beautiful you skin will look and feel after using it (due to the toner within it's contents).  Product is great on sensitive skin.

Cons:  Higher end cleanser. From quantity and price ranging 3 0z. for $10/$13 (USD/CDN) to 24 oz. for $41/$52 (USD/CDN), this isn't the most cost effective cleanser on the market.  Not easily accessible since found mainly in Sephora/ Ulta/ some Department Stores (unless shipping from other online sources).

Final thoughts:  Though this isn't the most cost effective cleanser on the market, it is one of the best out there.  With a toner mixed in, this product makes your skin feel smoother and less oily.  Worth it if you can afford it, especially since it is a cleanser and toner in one.

Milani Shadow Eyes 12 HR Wear

Easy and quick makeup is always needed.  The idea of putting an eyeshadow in a ‘crayon form’ that’s easy to glide on, smudgeable and lasts was genius.  Milani earlier this year came out with a line of these and refered to them as Shadow Eyez 12 hr Wear.  With the launch of 6 colours ranging from Winter White to Royal Purple, these are very worth while.  With a super smooth formula that is blendale this colour rich pencil is sure to please both the beginners and makeup artists alike.  These pencils are also water resistant and great for a powder shadow base-to make colours pop more (think of the famed NYX jumbo pencils but less sticky!)  They are also crease proof (perfect for oily lids).  The price point is  ‘ok’, when compared with similar products like Jordana’s Jumbo Pencil and the previous mentioned NYX jumbo pencils which are priced a little cheaper but formula isn’t as great as Milani.  For 2.8 grams/ 0.1 ounces of product you will pay approximately $6.99 (USD/CDN).

Tips: Smooth product onto the lids and use a synthetic brush (since creamy texture) and blend upwards and outwards for an easy and quick look.  Then use a darker tone that’s complimentary to the shadow pencil used, above to the crease for an easy yet beautiful smoky eye.
When not in use ensure to cover lid tightly, this product (the tip exposed) will dry out if not properly covered.

Pros: Glides on smoothly, highly pigmented, does not crease (waterproof) and since I find this formula to be better than NYX jumbo pencil the price is a plus (though more costly).

Cons:  This product comes primarily in shimmer/satin finish.  There are only 6 colours; a staple colour such as black should be in their regular line but it is not (featured in limited edition line.)  The size of the pencil is not standard to all sharpeners; therefore you will have to buy a sharpener suitable for these pencils.

Final thoughts: This is a good buy to have.  For quick looks or complicated ones where you really want the colour to pop, for the price you cannot go wrong with these super smooth shadow pencils.

Pictured above are Milani SHADOW EYEZ 12 HR WEAR in Champagne Toast and Green Safari.

Wet n Wild Mega Last® Liquid Lip Color

Are you a lipstick junkie?  Love highly pigmented lippies that are very budget friendly.  Welcome to the wonderful world of Mega Last Liquid Lip Color.  This product comes in 13 fabulous shades that are truly worth it.  With a smudge proof formula that comes in matte creme and shimmers, this product is truly to please.  Applies like a lip gloss but dries to a lipstick (can life get any better!) It can, this product only retails for  only $2.49/$3.99 (USD/CDN).  Oh what a wonderful world this is.

Tips: (This product is good without these steps, but follow these steps and you'll fall deeper in love with this product). Exfoliate your lips (get rid of the dead skin), then moisturize them with your favorite balm.  When your pout is prepped, line lips with your favourite liner for a perfect pout.  Then apply stain and VOILA! a perfect matte pout that will last all day (add gloss for a shiny look).

Pros: Glides on smoothly (no choppy patches), highly pigmented, dries smoothly.  It is a lip stain, therefore it isn't very moisturizing.  This product does not transfer easily.

Cons:  Though the wand does make for an easier and precise application, you may want to apply a lip liner for a flawless lip.  Like all other stains, this product can be drying to your lips if worn bare (use a lip balm under stain for a more comfortable wear.)

Final Thoughts:  This product is a fantastic buy.  The product is truly great and for all lippy fanatics, like myself you should definitely try this product out.

My Favourite High End Mascara: Benefit Cosmetics They're Real! Mascara

I am sure we have all heard about this mascara, but for those of you who haven't (and can afford to splurge) this is a must have, especially if you have barely there lashes.  This mascara comes in one shade, jet black and with this colour it lenghtens, lifts, curls and seperate your lashes.  This mascara takes your lashes into hyper drive and creates a dramatic look featuring your lashes but will have people thinking, are 'they real'.  With a price point of $23/$29 (USD/CDN) for 0.3 oz (full size) of product, this isn't the cheapest price for a mascara, however it is well worth it.  Please note that you can find this product in full size and a sample size (0.14 oz) for the price of one full size (Sephora).  A fantastic buy at this point.

Tips:  Apply horizontally at the base and then follow my focusing vertically on the tips of your lashes, for best results.

Pros:  This mascara gives the illusion that my lashes are actually there (natural looking falsies for those of you who actually have lashes).  With a base to tip thickening and lengthening magical formula and wand, I am truly in love with this mascara.  This mascara is very long lasting even with my oily skin.

Cons:  The price isn't the greatest but if your struggle with your lashes it is honestly well worth it.  The lack of colour selection makes this product a one trick pony.  I wish it came in other colours such as dark brown and blue (yes I still wear blue mascara).

Final thoughts: After finally giving in to buying a mascara at this price point, this is truly my holy grail of mascaras.  Usually I have to use two mascaras for lengthening and thickening (none for curling since my lashes are naturally very curly) but this truly gives me all in one (without that cakey, lumpy and heavy feel and look to my lashes).  There is no looking back after using this, thank you Benefit Cosmetics.

Benefit Cosmetics Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer

This is an amazing primer, especially if you don't have oily skin (and you are willing to apply your foundation quickly.)   It acts like a double sided tape and HOLDS onto your makeup.  The staying power of this primer is fantastic even on oily skin (which tells you something!)  This primer does nothing to control oil throughout the day, however even with your skin glistening with oil, your makeup will not move.  For $32/$38 (USD/CDN) you will get 15.5 grams of product presented  in a cylindrical twist up container, which I must say is fantastic packaging.

Tips:  Ensure you follow with your foundation quickly since this product does dry fast.  As soon as your rub this stick primer onto your face proceed with your foundation and blend the two together for a flawless application.  I focus strictly on the problem areas (forehead and cheeks) to ensure a flawless yet natural look to my face.

Pros: This primer works fantastic to fill pores and fine lines-see picture below, therefore giving the appearance of flawless skin. Very cute girly packaging.  It does allow my makeup to last hours, approx. 9 hours on my oily skin.

Cons:  This product does not oil control, therefore I find that I have to layer my primers.  If you are of a deeper skin tone, you may find that this primer leaves a grey cast over your skin and therefore ensure your blend blend blend.  The drying time on this primer is quick, so you have to ensure that you work quickly when applying your foundation or it (the foundation) will not apply smoothly.

Final thoughts: Overall it does not work best on it's own with my skin tone (deep) or type (oily) and therefore forces me to layer primers.  If foundation is applied after primer has dried, your makeup will look cakey and will not blend well.  I like to take my time when doing my makeup so having to rush through applying foundation can be irritating.  For the price point on this product, it is good but not great.

C.o. Bigelow Rose Salve (my all in one arsenal for cold weather blues)

Today I stepped out of the house, and ran right back in. When did it get so cold.  It went from summer to winter in two days.  I may have an oily face but in fall/winter weather, think desert for the rest of my body.  When I re-entered my house my first thought was where is my winter lip balm.

This balm is the mother of all balms.  Put away the old school chapstick and fad of 2012 EOS, where is my trusty old, sure to soothe and protect Rose Salve from C.o. Bigelow.  With a petrolatum base and rose extract infused into this product it soothes the lips and skin on impact.  Oh and did I mention it makes your lips feel like butter (super soft).  For $5.50 (USD)- a dollar more in Canadian stores this is surely a must have for the cold weather we are about to embrace.  This product can be found at your local Bath and Body stores.

Tip: Use before bed for super soft and moisturized lips in the morning.  A purse must have in the winter.  This baby will soothe any winter dryness.

Pros: Makes lips super soft. Pleasant soft rose scent.  Can use product on elbows, cuticles, face, knees etc.

Cons: For those of you who are scent sensitive, this product does have a slight rose scent.  It is packaged in a tin, which means dipping your fingers in and applying (not the most hygienic-especially when applying to lips).  Also I do believe in having a SPF protection in most of my beauty products and this doesn't.

Final thoughts: This is a great product year round, but I tend to reach for it in colder weather when I know my skin is prone to cracking (and strong sun damage isn't as likely).

Have you tried this product before? What is your go to "save my lips" balm for cold weather?

The Body Shop ® Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash

This is daily water based cleanser that truly cleanses your skin.  With 250 ml for $12 (CDN/USD), that usually goes on sale at 1/2 price this product is worth every penny and more (especially if you have oily, acne prone and uneven skin).

How to use: Wet face with lukewarm water.  Put a dime sized amount of product in palm and lather. Massage your face and neck with lathered palms moving upwards and then rinse with lukewarm water. When done rinsing, your face feels smooth and well cleansed.

Pros: The price can't be beat especially for what you are paying for (don't forget you can get it for 1/2 price).  It deep cleans very oily skin and treats acne prone uneven skin.  It contains tea tree oil which is an antiseptic, anti-viral and anti-fungal.  That is, it cleans any impurities that can cause problem skin. Gentle enough for everyday use.

Cons:  If your skin isn't oily, you will find this product to be drying to your skin.  For those of you who are scent sensitive, this product does have a slight tea tree scent to it.

Final thoughts: I have extremely oily skin and therefore this product is a miracle in a bottle for me. With acne spots (very few left thanks to this product) and some trouble areas (yes... even in my mid-20s) I do love this product.  As mentioned earlier, it does have a slight smell of tea tree oil, which for me isn't a bad thing since I know the benefits of such an oil on the skin and quite frankly it's worth it.

Jordana Cosmetics 12 HR Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil

As you approach this item you are skeptical with 0.04 oz of product for a $2.49 US / $3.99 CDN, my initial thought was "let me just try it...". The company describes this liner as an intense and instant colour liner that is made to last. Let me do the honors of confirming. This product is fantastic, if I had three thumbs, I would give it three thumbs up!

How to use this product: Line/tight line those pretty eyes of yours.

Pros: The colour pay off is fantastic. The price can't get any better and it's paraben free. The product is so pigmented and soft it takes little to no effort to apply and see the results you are looking for.

Cons: Lack of a wide variety colours for those bold beauties (think orange, gold, bronze, silver etc.) If you live in the USA these bad boys can be easily found in stores such as Walgreens; however us Canadians are limited on where we can find these unless we go on Amazon.com. However, do check your random Beauty Supplies my Canadian beauties(if your lucky you might stumble across them.) Also these liners are not hyopallergenic, so if your eyes are sensitive, you'll be out of luck.

Final thoughts: I am a user of MUFE aqua liners and MAC smolder and feline or should I say I was... this product beats them both(by a landslide). I will do a detailed comparison post in the near future. Overall a fantastic buy. Oh and did I mention this bad boy doesn't budge? and I have OILY skin-truly made to last. Now that's fantastic. It comes in 6 colours from your basic black (which is JET BLACK-see picture)to a funky purple and blue.

Sephora VIB Rouge

Sephora VIB Rouge, "a place for people with a serious beauty addiction."  A very well described description of this beauty card, since it takes you a whooping $1350 CDN (yearly) to get there.  Its takes nothing less than an addiction to get you there (one of which I must say I have).

As a past VIB and now a VIB Rouge at Sephora, here are my initial opinions of the welcome package.  Though it does offer some awesome benefits such as free shipping, free unlimited makeovers valued at $50 CDN each time, special gifts on random events (so does the VIBs) etc., the welcome kit was very lack luster.

Yes its beautiful, with a rich red and black wrapping it screams FABULOUS.  However, soon after you are greeted with a small sample size lipstick.  Now, I'm not asking for a full size product but I do believe at $1350 they could at least give a bigger sized lippy.  It's the regular sized sample lipstick you can get if you redeemed 100 points or on a random day just as a free sample.  I guess I should just be happy I got something; but to be frank I would have preferred another 10% discount (the one you get when you get to the VIB level).

I am yet to sample and review the Bite* custom lipstick created for Sephora VIB Rouge, that came included (coming soon); but it better be darn fantastic all things considering.

Will keep you guys updated, with all events to come with this newly reached level.

YAY... VIB Rouge (Sephora).

Lorac Tantalizer® Baked Bronzer

The product: This product is referred to as bronzing powder for the face and body. Overall it gives a fantastic glow to woc (also looks fantastic on medium tones) without looking too golden, glittery or ashy.

How I use this product: Focusing on the highest point of my cheekbones and brow bone.  Also on special occasions, pop a little on your collar bone and you’ll be BEAT for the GODS.

Pros: Offers a perfect glow, a little goes a long way.

Cons:  Available only online at Sephora.com (Canada) - no longer in stores.  This is a higher end product; therefore the full size (0.624 oz.) rings in at $32 CDN, however there is a smaller size (0.06 oz.) for only $7 CDN.

Final thoughts:  Truly gives a radiant look worth every dime.  A definite repurchase.
